"I'm going to sue the shit out of the Times. That'll help my poll numbers."
We're now seeing a whole lot of media backspin after the New York Times' front page drive-by revealed Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal saying that he served in Vietnam, when in fact he served as a reserve in the Marine Corps.
This is a very weird story because Blumenthal, an attorney and well scripted media parasite who chooses his words very carefully, has been caught on camera saying that he served in the Vietnam War to a group of Norwalk veterans in 2008.
In a press conference flanked by veterans in West Hartford, Blumethal tried to deflect the media storm by saying that he "misspoke" on a few occasions. While the national press has been viciously attacking him, the hometown media here in CT have basically said they never heard him say that he served in Vietnam in all their years in covering him.
Today, the Associated Press ran this story, a sort of hometown rebuttal to the Times story. Emphasis mine.
HARTFORD, Conn. – In the same 2008 speech in which he misstated his military service, Connecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal also correctly said that he "served in the military, during the Vietnam era."
This has been causing a shift in the story because the clip of the speech the Times' used, which was spoon fed by Linda McMahon's campaign, didn't include the above quote. Blumenthal's campaign has been using this as a defense from all the negative publicity.
But this is complete BS because that line doesn't correct anything. Blumethal still never specifies that he served in the military during the Vietnam era AS A RESERVE. Saying that he "served in the military during the Vietnam era" is still vague.
This whole thing is pretty silly because McMahon, another overly handled candidate who can throw money at anything to make things go her way, had to go to the New York Times with the "gotcha" footage, a newspaper that normally wouldn't give a shit about a Connecticut politician.
The Times said it independently researched the Blumenthal story, but McMahon herself said her campaign has had a role in the research. The Times doesn't have the reporters or the time to comb through endless amounts of footage to catch someone who looks like Crispin Glover's character from Back to the Future misspeaking on occasion. But if your opponent is Linda McMahon, millions and millions of bucks will give you access to top notch research departments to do this kind of work for you. I've been inside her campaign office, and it is such a slick and guarded operation that I was told I couldn't even mention in my story what was inside her headquarters - not even the color of her walls.
Maybe in the end she will end up buying our state's Senate seat.
For fuck sake, I don't like Blumenthal but McMahon will lead to the end of times. Anynone who considers voting for her try finding a clip from WWF or WWE or whatever they call themselves on youtube... Oh there are none... However,
ReplyDeleteFind anyone who has and major WWE paper view recording from around 2000 and witness what we are dealing with. For example; when she pretends to be paralyzed in a wheelchair for over a year of taping or when in an episode she kisses her husband's ass on live TV. Christ even listen when people ask her questions about the WWE or her past and she says she wants to talk about the issues then obviously avoids any tough questions with a bullshit avoidance and tell me who you want to represent you in the senate.

Absolutely. McMahon really doesn't have any new ideas. She is taking this "the government sucks approach" just like every other Republican candidate running for something in this country. She might be right, but where was she when Bush was running the government? When spending went out of control and the first bailout money was initiated under his watch to the banks. I asked McMahon back in November what she thought of TARP, and she said she thought it was a necessary thing to do at the time. Then, all her campaign ads for the next few months were viciously attacking programs like TARP and government bailouts. Completely contradictory. She is very disingenuous and can't even express her true feelings on an issue.
